The David Alvertes Logo was designed by me and began with the “A” in the center of the wreath, first created in 2016 at my custom print shop, The PrintTent, in Richmond, VA. At the time, I didn’t have a clear plan for how I would implement the full design—I just knew I wanted it to simultaneously represent both the stars or the promise of tomorrow, and the grounded reality of today.
After returning to Richmond, VA from Las Vegas, I came across the official 1782 seal of the City of Richmond. Beneath the female figure on the seal is the Latin motto “Sic itur ad astra”—which means “Such is the way to the stars.”
As soon as I saw it, I thought: This is me. I wanted the “A” to symbolize a kind of rocket ship—something that represents the future, a leap of faith, and the pursuit of what lies beyond what we can see, feel, or hear.
